Everest

This past week was the last week of Holly and I preparing for pitching and Monday marks the beginning of the next phase which is all about getting in the room to pitch. This entails making phone calls, reaching out to friends of friends, strangers and basically coming up with a network strategy of how to get into the room. Its a process which is intimidating and one which both Holly and I have ben anxious about.

I am however refusing to give any power to my anxiety. Often times the things that we are most anxious about turn out to be much easier than we have anticipated. The fear is in the lead up to events, often become monstrous and blown out of all proportion.  I often think about the explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes who climbed Everest on his third attempt. When an interviewer asked him why he think he failed on his first and second attempt up the mountain he said it was because magnitude of climbing everest had totally caused him to buckle. The third time he focused on the climb in stages; base camp 1 etc and then he managed it. That has been so helpful to me to keep things in perspective and to keep focused and moving forward. Knowing the direction you want to go but taking the small steps to get there instead of focusing on the mountain of what you’re after, freezing up in fear and never making it.

I really think that if you have it in your heart to do something then you are capable of doing it. Its whether or not you believe you are which can amount to success or failure in your endeavor. So it is worth spending a moment considering strategy and not just muddle along thinking it will happen.

So there you go darling. Whatever you maybe heading for this year, this new month, week or even day if it seems massive and overwhelming I simply suggest cutting it down to reasonable steps and before you know it you will be at the summit. See you at the top for a raising of the flag and a glass of champagne.

Of course. No other flag worth flying from mountain peaks. X
