Stand IV

How do we keep two feet on the ground, our visions and goals clear, as the world is constantly changing? I’d say it comes down to two things. First, working on yourself, keeping a strong center, being in tuned and on your path, is crucial. Secondly, I think it comes down to the people in your life. It’s like the famous saying, ’you are who you surround yourself with’. In many ways starting the bead movement has been a way of getting out of my own way to become the person I truly want to be, and to live the life I desire.

This year I have the wonderful opportunity to be a part of a program for professional writers in the film and television industry that a film fund in Stockholm hosts. It’s absolutely amazing to be able to work with a career coach and a market strategist over the course of a year. The career coach got me out of my own way, pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me see my career from a new perspective. I love it.

In LA the Women in Film had this marvelous group ’Kim’s goal group’ once a month. It was lead by an extraordinary woman who was pushing, coaching, and cheering on the group members making everyone accountable for their goals. Since I started going to Kim’s group I’ve longed for something similar in Stockholm.

So when I looked at my group of ten writers on this program, I saw a great opportunity, and this Friday we found ourselves having our first ”goal” meeting. Together we are so much stronger than each of us on our own. Being a writer is a lonely profession, and we work in a world that is beyond tough. I am all about trying to create a more kind business and work environment where people share and help each other out. Instead of fighting on my own, I open up, and let others in. Together we have an enormous potential, we can help each other in a grander way to reach our dreams!

This past year I have made a choice of Interdependence, because there is no success in standing on my own. As soon as one forms alliances with others life sparks of magic. That’s true not only in business, but also of course in life. Together we are stronger and we have more experience and knowledge. I totally believe that my survival is dependent on a strong center, but always in combination with the help of others. But (!) the help of others is a result of my willingness to help them. Giving first is at the core of humanity, but yet a rare quality today. So many people of today is run by fear, so we rather stick to ourselves than share. The collective is rarely praised, instead we love the independent’s struggles, but I know I won’t be happy fighting my way to the top. I wanna help out on my way there. I believe in kindness and in giving. It might take me a bit longer to get where I am going, but I value happiness and kindness more.

As Helen Keller said, ”Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much”.
