One and only one resolution for the year!

I have always felt a need to turn inward when everyone proclaim their New Year’s resolutions. Not until this winter did I understand why.

Winter is a time for hibernation. Nature rests under the snowy surface, animals have stocked up or sleep for months. Instead of taking this time to do something similar, the western world urges us to set lofty goals and march towards them with newfound energy. Against nature. I wonder, how in tune are we really then with what we want and need when we aren’t adhering to the stillness of the season? Isn’t this a time to rest and go within to sit with the lessons and effects of 2024?

What if we aren’t supposed to be ready to march until spring equinox on March 21st?

For a long time I have felt a need to be more with nature. I’d rather gear up with functional clothes that keep me warm and dry outdoors, than the latest fashion to strut the city streets. As I have adhered to this need and gardened, I have come to see the golden nuggets of the seasons. So this year I will have one resolution only, to live with the seasons.

What does that mean?

I don’t really know yet. But I want to be guided with the voice of nature. To see what happens outdoors and act in reference to it. During the night we had more snow, it’s windy and underneath the snow there is icy roads and trails. The snow makes the world quiet, urging me to listen more carefully. The wind makes me curl up indoors and the ice underneath the snow asks me to tread lightly.

What if these three keys are all that I need for the day ahead?

What is nature and the weather telling you today?
